Cologne saxophonist and composer Lennart Allkemper (*1992) early found his way to music.
Already at the age of 12, he won the renowned ‚Jugend Jazzt NRW‘ competition on alto saxophone. Two more first prices followed (2007 & 2009),
after changing to his now main instrument – the tenor saxophone.
Due to that early achievements Lennart got invited to play in the Youth Jazz Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia at the age of 15, with whom he won the WDR-Jazz price in 2013.
Simultaneously he started, while also still in school, to study at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen with professors Mathias Nadolny and professor Ansgar Striepens.
After successfully finishing high school, Lennart started to study at the renowned Cologne University of Music and Dance with professors Wolfgang Engstfeld and Claudius Valk (graduation in 2017 with top grade) and studied also one year as part of the ERASMUS-program at Conservatorium van Amsterdam with professors Jasper Blom and Joris Roelofs.
During studying Lennart was a firm member of the BuJazzO (2012-2014), the Youth Jazz Orchestra of Germany, with whom he won the Echo Jazz in 2012.
With only 23 years, he was awarded with the cultural prize of Bottrop in 2016.
Tours abroad led him amongst other places to China, Westafrica, Guinea Bissau, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Finland, Estonia, Croatia, Austria and the Netherlands.
Festivals he played on include amongst others North Sea Jazz (NL), Gent Jazz Festival (BE), Moers Jazz Festival, Jazzfest Bonn, Jazzfest Groznjan (HRV), Saint Louis Jazz (SEN), Baltic Jazz (FIN), Imatra Bigband Festival (FIN),
Lennart also subs regularly both tenor chairs at the WDR Big Band and the HR Big Band and plays not only tenorsax, but also clarinet, bass-clarinet, flute, alto-flute and soprano saxophone.
He already worked together with a variety of renowned artists, like Ron Carter, Vince Mendoza, Peter Erskine, Kurt Elling, Fred Hersch, Dave Liebman, Dick Oatts, Bob Mintzer, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, Richie Beirach, Adam Nussbaum, Lizz Wright, Wolfgang Haffner, Eli Degibri, Joel Frahm, Till Brönner, Jay Anderson, John Riley, Rich DeRosa, Peter Herbolzheimer, Jörg-Achim Keller, John Ruocco, Jiggs Whigham, Ack van Rooyen, Peter Weniger, Silvia Droste, Ralf Hesse, Luciano Biondini, Bruno Castelucci, Uli Beckerhoff, Paul Heller, Theo Jörgensmann, Niels Klein, Jasper Blom, Florian Ross, Mike Herting, Marcio Doctor, Greetje Kauffeld, Ansgar Striepens, Mathias Nadolny, Fay Claassen and many more.
He had lessons and masterclasses with Branford Marsalis, Dave Liebman, Richie Beirach, Eli Degibri, Joel Frahm, Paul Heller, Johan Hörlen, Olivier Peters, Peter Weniger and many more.
Lennart Allkemper currently is active as a player and composer, can be heard regularly throughout Germany and Europe as an active player in different musical settings and teaches saxophone and clarinet in Cologne and St. Augustin.
